Meghalaya Spice Festival Debuts in Mumbai to Showcase Organic Spice Industry

The first-ever Meghalaya Spice Festival was inaugurated at Jio World Drive, highlighting the northeastern state’s growing organic spice sector. A 140-member delegation of farmers, entrepreneurs, cooperative leaders and officials travelled from Meghalaya to engage directly with buyers, retailers and exporters.

The opening day saw strong participation with buyer–seller meetings, policy discussions and live demonstrations of spice processing. The event aims to connect the state’s farmers with national and global markets while strengthening market access for premium organic spices.

Officials said the festival reflects the government’s strategy to position Meghalaya’s products in high-value domestic and international markets. According to, Commissioner and Secretary of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, the state’s turmeric is already reaching markets in America, the Middle East and Europe, while ginger exports have recently begun to Singapore.

The initiative also highlights the rising demand for Lakadong turmeric, known for its high curcumin content.
