Tahini Recalled in Canada Over Salmonella Risk

Mahrousa brand tahini has been recalled in Canada after tests detected Salmonella contamination. The affected product is sold in jars with Arabic labeling and does not carry a UPC code. The jars are marked with the production code P 23/06/2024 and expiration date E 23/06/2026The contamination was identified during routine testing conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Salmonella-contaminated food often appears normal in smell, taste, and appearance, making it difficult for consumers to detect. Anyone can develop a Salmonella infection, but infants, young children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems face a higher risk of severe illness.

Symptoms typically appear 12 to 72 hours after consuming contaminated food and may include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Most healthy adults recover within four to seven days, though severe cases can require hospitalization.

Consumers who have eaten the recalled tahini and develop symptoms are advised to seek medical attention and inform healthcare providers about possible Salmonella exposure.
