Lilly’s Retatrutide Shows Strong Results in Diabetes Trial

Eli Lilly’s investigational triple hormone receptor agonist, retatrutide, has successfully met primary endpoints in a Phase III trial for type 2 diabetes. The therapy targets GIP, GLP-1, and glucagon receptors, offering a novel approach to metabolic treatment.

In the TRANSCEND-T2D-1 study, retatrutide reduced A1C levels by 1.7% to 2.0% over 40 weeks, compared to 0.8% with placebo. Patients also experienced significant weight loss, averaging up to 16.8% (36.6 lbs), alongside improvements in cardiovascular risk factors such as cholesterol and blood pressure.

While A1C reductions were slightly lower than those seen with Mounjaro (tirzepatide), the overall metabolic benefits highlight retatrutide’s strong potential.

Side effects were consistent with similar therapies, mainly gastrointestinal issues. Full results will be presented at the American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions 2026.

With additional trials ongoing, retatrutide could become a major player in the rapidly growing diabetes and obesity treatment market.
