Boston Scientific has announced positive outcomes from two major clinical trials evaluating its Watchman FLX device and Ekos endovascular system. The findings were presented at the American College of Cardiology Conference 2026 and simultaneously published in the The New England Journal of Medicine.
The CHAMPION-AF trial assessed the Watchman device in patients with atrial fibrillation. It met key safety and efficacy endpoints, showing a 45% reduction in non-procedural bleeding compared to non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOACs), while maintaining comparable protection against stroke and related complications.
In the HI-PEITHO trial, the Ekos system was tested in patients with pulmonary embolism. When combined with anticoagulation, it reduced major adverse events by 61% compared to anticoagulation alone, without increasing the risk of brain bleeding.
These results highlight the potential of both technologies to improve treatment outcomes and expand therapeutic options in cardiovascular care.
