Exercise is widely known for improving overall health, but individuals with high blood sugar may not fully experience its benefits, particularly when it comes to efficient oxygen use. Elevated glucose levels can limit the body’s ability to utilize oxygen during physical activity, reducing endurance and increasing health risks.
New research suggests an unexpected approach—raising fat intake instead of reducing it. A study found that a high-fat, low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet helped normalize blood sugar levels and improved how the body responded to exercise. Over time, muscle function adapted, showing better oxygen utilization and increased endurance capacity.
The findings highlight the connection between diet and exercise, suggesting that combining both strategies can produce stronger health outcomes. While strict ketogenic diets may not suit everyone, alternative approaches that support stable blood sugar levels can also be effective.
Researchers emphasize the need for further human studies, but the results point toward diet playing a key role in maximizing exercise benefits.
