Cracking the Myth: Eggs Don’t Raise Bad Cholesterol, Saturated Fat Does

A groundbreaking study has finally cleared eggs of their long-standing cholesterol stigma. According to new research from the University of South Australia, it's not the cholesterol in eggs, but rather saturated fat that increases LDL (bad) cholesterol.

The study—said to be the first of its kind—investigated the separate impacts of dietary cholesterol and saturated fat on heart health. Researchers found that consuming two eggs daily in a diet high in cholesterol but low in saturated fat can actually help reduce LDL cholesterol and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

CVD is the world’s leading cause of death, claiming nearly 18 million lives annually. In Australia, it causes one death every 12 minutes.

Lead researcher Professor Jon Buckley says eggs have been wrongly criticized. "It’s not the eggs, it’s the bacon. Eggs are rich in cholesterol but low in saturated fat—the real cholesterol culprit," he notes.

So, enjoy your eggs—just skip the sausage.
