The Certificate Course in Managing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is a 5-day intensive program designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, laws, procedures, management, protection, enforcement, and commercialization of intellectual property. The program covers major forms of intellectual property including patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, geographical indications, trade secrets, and related emerging IP issues.
The course combines fundamental concepts with practical exposure to patent searching, prior-art analysis, patentability assessment, patent drafting, trademark protection, IP infringement, Freedom-to-Operate (FTO), licensing, technology transfer, and IP commercialization. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding the Indian IPR framework alongside major international systems and conventions administered through WIPO and related international frameworks.

Comprehensive coverage of fundamental and advanced concepts of Intellectual Property Rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, geographical indications, trade secrets, and related forms of IP protection.
Detailed understanding of the Indian and international IPR framework, including major international conventions, treaties, agreements, and organizations associated with intellectual property protection.
Practical understanding of patentability requirements, including novelty, inventive step, industrial applicability, prior art, patentable subject matter, and exclusions from patent protection.
Practical exposure to patent searching and prior-art analysis, including keyword searching, Boolean search strategies, IPC/CPC classification, inventor and applicant searching, citation analysis, and patent family analysis.
Introduction to major patent databases and intellectual property search platforms for conducting technology searches, prior-art searches, patent landscaping, and competitive intelligence.
Fundamental training in patent drafting, including patent specifications, claims, independent and dependent claims, abstracts, descriptions, and identification of essential technical features.
Comprehensive understanding of trademark, copyright, industrial design, geographical indication, and trade-secret protection, including registration, ownership, infringement, and enforcement considerations.
Practical understanding of IP portfolio management, licensing, assignment, technology transfer, IP valuation, commercialization, and royalty arrangements.
Exposure to Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) analysis, patent infringement assessment, patent opposition, revocation, enforcement, and IP risk management.
Case-study-based learning covering contemporary issues such as patent thickets, patent trolls, evergreening, compulsory licensing, parallel imports, counterfeiting, digital piracy, online infringement, and cross-border IP enforcement.
All efforts are made by IGMPI faculty members and trainers to make the entire programme modules structured, practical, industry-oriented, and easily understandable for participants from different academic and professional backgrounds.
Assessment and evaluation will be conducted across the programme to enhance the knowledge, analytical capabilities, practical competencies, and IP decision-making skills of participants.
At the end of the programme modules, trainers may obtain feedback from participants through specially designed questionnaires to continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of programme delivery.
All learning and training delivery initiatives shall be conducted in English.
Online assessment will be conducted at the end of the programme to evaluate participants' understanding of the fundamental concepts, legal framework, practical applications, and strategic aspects of Intellectual Property Rights.
After successful completion of the programme and assessment requirements, participants will be awarded the Certificate in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) by IGMPI.
The certification demonstrates the participant's structured learning and competency development in the areas of intellectual property protection, patent analysis, IP management, commercialization, and enforcement.
