Certificate in Managing IPR

The Certificate Course in Managing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is a 5-day intensive program designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, laws, procedures, management, protection, enforcement, and commercialization of intellectual property. The program covers major forms of intellectual property including patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, geographical indications, trade secrets, and related emerging IP issues.

The course combines fundamental concepts with practical exposure to patent searching, prior-art analysis, patentability assessment, patent drafting, trademark protection, IP infringement, Freedom-to-Operate (FTO), licensing, technology transfer, and IP commercialization. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding the Indian IPR framework alongside major international systems and conventions administered through WIPO and related international frameworks. 

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of the Certificate Course in Manging IPR, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental concepts, principles, and classifications of Intellectual Property Rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, geographical indications, trade secrets, and other forms of intellectual property.

  • Develop an understanding of IPR management and commercialization, including licensing, assignment, technology transfer, IP valuation, IP portfolio management, royalty arrangements, and commercialization strategies.
  • Understand patent infringement, opposition, revocation, enforcement, and Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) analysis, enabling participants to recognize potential IP risks associated with products, technologies, and commercial activities.
  • Recognize emerging and strategic IPR challenges, including patent thickets, patent trolls, evergreening, compulsory licensing, parallel imports, counterfeiting, online infringement, digital piracy, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and cross-border IP enforcement.
  • Appreciate the strategic role of IPR in research, innovation, entrepreneurship, technology development, and commercialization, particularly in strengthening competitive advantage and protecting organizational intellectual assets.
  • Apply IPR principles to practical research and industrial scenarios and develop appropriate strategies for identification, protection, management, enforcement, and commercialization of intellectual property.

After successful completion of the programme and assessment requirements, participants will be awarded the Certificate in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) by IGMPI.
