Despite recognizing its potential, many healthcare organizations are not ready to implement generative AI, according to a Wolters Kluwer survey. While 67% of respondents believe AI could ease prior authorization burdens and over 60% see its value in EHR management and cybersecurity, only 18% are aware of formal AI oversight policies at their workplace, and just 20% report structured staff training.
Ethical readiness and regulatory adaptability also remain low, with less than half saying their organizations are prepared. Although many professionals use generative AI at home, 40% have never used it at work.
The Trump administration has reversed earlier federal AI oversight, and pending legislation may restrict state-level AI regulation for a decade, leaving healthcare providers with limited guidance on safe adoption. Staffing shortages remain a key concern, yet AI readiness remains insufficient to address them effectively.
