Medtronic Expands Pain Portfolio with ViaVerte Distribution Deal

Medtronic has entered into a distribution agreement with Merit Medical to offer a new treatment for chronic lower back pain. The partnership centers on the ViaVerte system, designed for basivertebral nerve ablation (BVNA), a minimally invasive procedure targeting vertebrogenic pain caused by damage to spinal endplates.

Scheduled for availability this year, the system enables physicians to precisely navigate and treat affected nerves, helping disrupt pain signals. The procedure can be performed in an outpatient setting, making it a convenient option for patients.

ViaVerte is positioned as a complementary addition to Medtronic’s existing pain management portfolio, which includes spinal cord stimulation, nerve ablation, and targeted drug delivery therapies.

The agreement builds on an ongoing collaboration between the two companies, with Merit already supplying devices used in spinal procedures. This move reflects Medtronic’s continued focus on expanding innovative, minimally invasive solutions for pain management.
