MiniMed Secures FDA Clearance for Compact Insulin Pump

MiniMed has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its new MiniMed Flex insulin pump, marking its first product launch as an independent public company.

The MiniMed Flex is about half the size of the earlier 780G system and is designed for smartphone control, offering greater convenience and flexibility for users. It includes a 300-unit insulin reservoir and integrates with continuous glucose monitoring systems such as Simplera Sync and sensors developed by Abbott.

The device is approved for individuals aged seven and older with type 1 diabetes and adults with type 2 diabetes. Its compact design and connectivity features aim to improve usability in daily diabetes management.

MiniMed plans a limited rollout in spring, followed by a broader launch in summer, as it strengthens its position in the competitive diabetes care market.
