MoFPI Promotes Tech-Driven Nutrition Tracking, Urges NIFTEM-K Innovation

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) and NIFTEM-Kundli hosted a workshop, SWASTH, focusing on tackling unhealthy food consumption. MoFPI Secretary Dr. Subrata Gupta emphasized the need for technology to track calorie intake, encouraging NIFTEM-K to develop smart devices like calorie-monitoring smartwatches. He highlighted global health concerns including non-communicable diseases and food adulteration.

NIFTEM-K Director Dr. Harinder Singh Oberoi announced plans to introduce food processing topics into school curricula to promote healthy habits. Experts discussed the risks of high fat, salt, and sugar (HFSS) foods and ultra-processed foods (UPF), stressing balanced, science-based approaches.

Industry representatives from companies like ITC and Nestlé called for evidence-based policies and national nutrition surveys. The event gathered over 180 participants, advocating innovation and collaboration to address food safety, nutrition, and public health challenges.
