Cybersecurity analysts have uncovered a new Android banking trojan that specifically targets mobile payment applications and financial services platforms. The malware spreads through fake application downloads and phishing messages that trick users into installing malicious software disguised as legitimate financial tools or updates.
Once installed, the trojan silently monitors user activity, captures login credentials, and intercepts one-time authentication codes sent through SMS. Researchers say the malware also overlays fake login screens on top of legitimate banking applications, allowing attackers to harvest sensitive information directly from victims. Because mobile banking has become widely used across the world, including in emerging digital economies, this type of malware represents a growing threat to both individuals and financial institutions. Security experts advise users to install apps only from trusted sources and keep their mobile operating systems updated to minimize the risk of infection.
