Abbott Links Glucose Monitoring Data with Epic’s Electronic Health Records

Abbott and Epic have announced a partnership to integrate glucose data from Abbott’s Libre continuous glucose monitors into Epic’s electronic health record (EHR) systems across the U.S. This connection will allow over 575,000 healthcare providers to access glucose readings directly within patients’ digital charts, enhancing clinical efficiency and patient collaboration. The integration links Abbott’s Libreview data software with Epic, the leading EHR provider in the U.S., which recently expanded its hospital market share. Abbott’s group president of medical devices, Lisa Earnhardt, noted plans to extend this integrated approach to other medical devices and care platforms. With over 6 million users globally, Freestyle Libre CGMs generated $1.7 billion in Q1 sales, marking an 18.3% year-over-year increase. The integration is part of a broader effort by Abbott and rivals like Dexcom—projected to hit $4.6 billion in sales this year—to innovate and grow the CGM market beyond Type 1 diabetes through AI-enabled devices and broader connectivity.
