Tempus and Medtronic have demonstrated the potential of AI-driven clinical alerts to improve outcomes in patients with valvular heart disease.
In the ALERT study, the Tempus Next platform—an AI-enabled system integrated with electronic health records—helped identify patients with mitral regurgitation (MR) and aortic stenosis (AS). Patients receiving automated alerts were 27% more likely to be evaluated by a cardiovascular team within 90 days compared to usual care.
This led to a 40% relative increase in valve procedures, with 13.4% of patients treated versus 9.6% in the control group.
By analysing echocardiogram data in real time, the platform enables earlier intervention and supports equitable access to care. Experts believe such AI-driven tools could help bridge treatment gaps and standardise cardiovascular care delivery.
