Boston Scientific Partners with Siemens for Next-Gen Cardiac Imaging Catheter

Boston Scientific and Siemens Healthineers have partnered to develop and commercialize Siemens’ next-generation intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) catheter, aimed at structural heart procedures. The catheter will support standalone Watchman left atrial appendage closure, Farapulse pulsed field ablation (PFA), and combined Watchman-PFA procedures, potentially boosting adoption of Boston Scientific’s Watchman device.

Boston Scientific will be the exclusive distributor of the Acunav 4D ICE catheter in the U.S. and Japan. Watchman, designed to lower stroke risk by closing the left atrial appendage, has driven 35% year-over-year growth in cardiology revenue, reaching $512 million in Q3.

The 4D ICE catheter provides real-time moving images of the heart from the right atrium, improving guidance without crossing into the left atrium and reducing complications. The partnership reflects a broader trend of medical device companies collaborating on advanced imaging solutions to enhance procedural safety and efficiency in cardiology and other surgical specialties.
