Johnson & Johnson Unveils Dualto Generator for Ottava Surgical Robot

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has launched the Dualto electrosurgical generator, designed for use with devices including its upcoming Ottava robotic surgical system. Dualto powers monopolar, bipolar, ultrasonic, and advanced bipolar instruments, offering up to 46% footprint reduction compared to separate generators.

This space-saving design aligns with Ottava’s compact architecture, where robotic arms are integrated into the surgical bed. Dualto is also the first system to allow two surgeons to activate energy simultaneously from a single electrosurgical unit. J&J aims to differentiate Ottava from Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci system by emphasizing efficiency, modularity, and reduced clutter in operating rooms.

J&J, which already sells energy-based surgical instruments like Harmonic and Enseal, sees Dualto as part of its broader strategy to provide a comprehensive surgical ecosystem. Ottava, which received clearance for human trials in November, is central to J&J’s push into robotic surgery.
