MARAbio introduces the MAR-Autism Test to identify maternal autoantibodies linked to autism

MARAbio Systems has launched the MAR-Autism Test, a blood test that identifies maternal autoantibibody-related autism (MARA), a specific autism subtype. The test detects harmful autoantibodies in mothers that can cross the placenta during pregnancy and disrupt fetal brain development, leading to neurodevelopmental changes associated with autism. Studies published in peer-reviewed journals link these autoantibodies to moderate to severe autism symptoms. Developed from over two decades of research at the UC Davis MIND Institute by founder and chief scientific adviser Judy Van de Water, the test represents a major step forward in early autism risk identification. Clinical validation shows over 99% specificity, minimizing false positives. Certain antibody patterns indicate up to a 99% autism risk in offspring. The test is available across most US regions for women with an autistic child and for children showing early signs, supporting earlier diagnosis and intervention.
