Medtronic Integrates 780G Insulin Pump with Abbott Glucose Sensor

Medtronic has launched its MiniMed 780G insulin pump in the U.S., now paired with Abbott’s Instinct glucose sensor, marking the first time Medtronic has integrated its pumps with a sensor developed outside the company.

The Instinct sensor offers a 15-day wear time, longer than any existing Medtronic continuous glucose monitor (CGM). The partnership, announced last year, comes after the FDA granted Medtronic an expanded label for the 780G system, recognizing its algorithm as an interoperable automated glycemic controller, allowing integration with CGMs from other manufacturers.

Medtronic continues to develop its own sensors and is working on a smaller pump, MiniMed Flex, planned for use with the Instinct CGM. The collaboration reflects Medtronic’s strategy to expand flexibility for people with diabetes while maintaining advanced automated insulin delivery technology.
