Philips’ DeviceGuide Uses AI to Enhance Mitral Valve Repair

Philips has developed DeviceGuide, an AI-powered software designed to assist physicians during mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) procedures, in collaboration with Edwards Lifesciences. The technology integrates ultrasound and X-ray images to generate a real-time 3D visualization of the repair device as it moves through the heart.

By superimposing the device on live images of the beating heart, DeviceGuide provides a unified 3D reference for the clinical team. The system tracks catheter position and direction, enhancing device navigation, reducing procedure time, and shortening the learning curve for physicians performing complex TEER procedures.

Currently available through a limited release in select European markets, DeviceGuide has been submitted to the U.S. FDA for review. The innovation marks a shift in AI applications from diagnostic imaging to live procedural guidance, joining similar initiatives by Siemens Healthineers, Boston Scientific, GE HealthCare, and Volta Medical in structural heart and electrophysiology interventions.
