Thermo Fisher and Syncell Partner to Advance Spatial Proteomics

Thermo Fisher Scientific has entered a collaboration with Taiwan-based Syncell to integrate its Microscoop Mint technology into the Orbitrap Astral mass spectrometer. Syncell’s platform enables microscopy-guided, real-time spatial protein purification, enhancing the ability to map and analyze proteins with high precision.

By combining Syncell’s nanometre-scale spatial resolution with the ultra-sensitive detection of Thermo Fisher’s Orbitrap Astral, the partnership is expected to deliver “fully integrated” spatial proteomics workflows. This integration aims to surpass conventional antibody-based spatial methods, allowing researchers to study proteins within tissues and cells at subcellular resolution without relying on predefined targets.

Experts note that the collaboration transforms biological interrogation, offering unprecedented insights into cell signaling and molecular detail. Thermo Fisher also recently introduced the Orbitrap Astral Zoom MS, delivering faster scan speeds, higher throughput, and expanded multiplexing. This partnership marks a step forward in applying spatial proteomics to oncology, immunology, and broader biological research.
