Vicarious Surgical and SS Innovations are advancing efforts to bring next-generation robotic surgery systems to the U.S. market, aiming to challenge Intuitive Surgical’s dominance. Vicarious has signed an agreement with UMass Memorial Medical Center to support adoption of its single-port surgical robot. The collaboration will focus on improving surgical outcomes, surgeon training, and standardizing care and logistics. Vicarious plans to treat its first clinical patients in 2025 and seek FDA de novo classification by late 2026, starting with ventral hernia procedures. The company reported a Q1 net loss of $15.4 million and expects a $50 million full-year cash burn.
Meanwhile, SS Innovations plans to submit its FDA application for the SSi Mantra 3 system in July, targeting a broad range of surgical indications. The robot is already in use in six countries, with 80 systems installed and over 3,800 surgeries performed. The firm expects $6.4 million in Q1 revenue and a 45% gross margin.
