Zimmer Biomet has introduced two orthopedic devices in collaboration with Paragon 28, the foot and ankle specialist it acquired earlier this year for $1.1 billion. The new products—the Gorilla Pilon Fusion Plating System and Phantom TTC Trauma Nail—aim to strengthen the company’s sports medicine, extremities, and trauma (SET) portfolio while maintaining Paragon’s double-digit growth.
The Gorilla system, cleared by the FDA in July, addresses pilon fractures, which represent about 7–10% of shinbone breaks, and supports primary ankle fusion in complex cases. It is only the second system on the market designed for this purpose, offering a lower-profile, anatomically contoured plate for stable fixation. The Phantom TTC Trauma Nail, also cleared in July, provides fixation for severe trauma and hindfoot injuries.
Zimmer and Paragon jointly launched the devices, emphasizing a limited-integration strategy to preserve Paragon’s innovative brand identity.
