The Punjab Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu notice of the alleged sale of substandard milk and paneer in Chandigarh markets, following recent media reports. The action comes after reports cited laboratory tests conducted by the Food Safety Department, which showed that a significant number of milk and paneer samples failed quality standards over the past three years.
According to local media, nearly one in three samples tested during this period was found to be substandard. Taking note of these findings, the Commission has issued notices to the Food Safety Commissioner, the Health Secretary and other relevant officials, seeking detailed reports on the issue.
The Commission has also directed the concerned Food Safety Officer to appear in person at the next hearing. The matter is scheduled to be reviewed in the last week of January.
