UK Biotech Oceanium Launches Seaweed-Based Prebiotic with Reduced Side Effects

At the European Marine Science Park, UK biotech firm Oceanium announced a breakthrough in gut health with its seaweed-derived ingredient, Ocean Actives H+. Clinical studies show that a daily 250 mg dose—roughly the size of a vitamin C tablet—provides the same microbiome benefits as traditional prebiotics, but without the bloating, gas, and digestive discomfort commonly associated with higher-dose supplements.

Traditional prebiotics such as inulin, GOS, and FOS typically require 5–10 grams per day, often causing side effects that lead consumers to discontinue use. Oceanium’s formulation addresses this problem, delivering effective gut support with 87% less gas production.

“Consumers told us they couldn’t tolerate conventional prebiotics despite their benefits,” said Oceanium. The seaweed extract offers powerful gut health in a convenient, small dose, making it easier for people to maintain consistent supplementation and improve digestive wellbeing.”
