Westfalia Fruit and AgroSustain Partner to Boost Sustainability in Avocado Supply Chain

Global avocado leader Westfalia Fruit has partnered with agri-tech innovator AgroSustain to advance sustainable solutions that reduce food loss and chemical residues. Since 2022, both companies have tested Afondo, an edible coating designed to extend fruit shelf life.

Trials conducted in Colombia, Chile, and Peru—and later expanded to Germany and France—show Afondo can cut post-harvest fungicide use by over 50% while reducing supply chain waste. Compatible with existing machinery, it allows smooth integration with minimal disruption.

Following successful trials, Westfalia has begun commercial testing with select customers across Europe. The collaboration underscores Westfalia’s commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability, as Afondo continues to deliver strong results without compromising flavor or freshness.
