Artificial Intelligence Reshaping Hotel Operations, Improving Staff Efficiency and Guest Services: AHLA Report

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly helping hotels improve operational efficiency while enabling employees to focus more on guest services, according to a new report released by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) in collaboration with hospitality technology company Actabl.

The report, presented at The Hospitality Show 2026 in Miami Beach, examines how AI-powered solutions are transforming hotel operations, workforce planning and employee productivity without replacing the human element of hospitality.

According to the findings, 90% of respondents reported that AI helps them complete routine administrative tasks faster, while 84% acknowledged improvements in their individual work performance. However, only 15% observed significant improvements in frontline operations, indicating considerable scope for wider technology adoption.

The report also highlighted improvements in workforce efficiency. During the first half of 2026, full-service hotels using Actabl's Hotel Effectiveness platform recorded a 3.1% reduction in labour hours per occupied room, while select-service hotels achieved a 3.5% reduction, despite increasing occupancy levels.

Employee retention trends also showed encouraging results. Hotel staff turnover declined to 5.35% in June 2026, compared with 5.84% in June 2025 and 6.07% in June 2024.

AI applications in staff scheduling, demand forecasting, employee training and operational planning are helping hotel managers make informed decisions and allocate resources more effectively. Improved scheduling also enables employees to manage workloads and maintain greater consistency in their working hours.

The report emphasises that AI should complement rather than replace hospitality professionals, allowing hotels to combine technological efficiency with personalised guest experiences.
