U.S. Hotel Industry Records Strong Year-on-Year Growth in Key Performance Measures

The U.S. hotel industry recorded positive year-on-year growth during the week ending 19 September 2026, according to the latest performance figures from CoStar. The data showed improvement across occupancy, average daily rate (ADR) and revenue per available room (RevPAR) when compared with the corresponding week in 2025.

Hotel occupancy reached 71.1%, representing an increase of 4.4% over the same period last year. The average daily rate rose 5.7% to $179.30, while RevPAR increased by 10.4% to $127.43. The reported ADR was the highest weekly level recorded in the available data.

Performance varied among the country's major hotel markets. Chicago registered the largest increase in ADR among the top 25 markets, with the figure rising 28.2% to $257.66. The city's RevPAR increased by 41.8% to $226.18. The strong performance was partly associated with the International Manufacturing Technology Show held during the period.

Washington, D.C. recorded the strongest occupancy growth among the leading markets. Occupancy climbed 10.7% to 82.3%, while RevPAR rose 23.9% to $194.23.

Overall, 21 of the 25 largest U.S. hotel markets reported an increase in RevPAR compared with the same week in 2025. The figures indicate that hotel demand and room-rate performance remained positive during the reporting period, although individual markets continued to experience different levels of growth depending on local events and demand conditions.

The weekly figures provide a snapshot of hotel operating performance across the U.S. market and are based on data compiled by CoStar from the country's accommodation sector.
