Virta Health reported positive results from a Phase II randomized controlled trial evaluating its medically supervised nutrition therapy in patients with stage IV metastatic pancreatic cancer, conducted with partners including Mayo Clinic.
All participants received triplet chemotherapy (nab-paclitaxel, cisplatin, and gemcitabine) and were assigned either to Virta’s program or a standard diet. Patients in the nutrition therapy group showed a 34% increase in overall survival (13.7 vs. 10.2 months) and a 37% improvement in progression-free survival (8.5 vs. 6.2 months).
The study met its objective by demonstrating feasibility and a trend toward improved outcomes without added toxicity or reduced quality of life.
Virta’s program combines personalized nutrition, biomarker tracking, AI tools, and clinical support. Findings suggest that targeted nutritional interventions may complement conventional cancer treatments and improve patient outcomes.
