Etobicoke Residents Oppose 5G Tower Over Health and Safety Concerns

A proposed 25-meter 5G cell tower near Renforth Drive in Etobicoke has sparked pushback from residents, who cite health risks, lack of consultation, and its proximity to schools and homes. The tower would be built close to seven schools and a daycare, raising concerns about long-term exposure for children.

Local Councillor Stephen Holyday and Toronto Catholic District School Board chair Markus de Domenico have joined the opposition, questioning the site’s suitability and calling for greater community engagement. Residents fear potential links between radiofrequency (RF) radiation and cancer, interference with medical devices, and other health effects.

Health Canada insists 5G exposure is safe within federal guidelines. However, critics highlight a 2022 scientific review linking RF radiation to radiofrequency sickness, cancer, and biochemical changes. The dispute underscores growing tensions between the rapid rollout of 5G technology and public unease over unresolved questions of safety and accountability.
