PFAS Contamination Concerns Escalate Across North Georgia

Environmental concerns over “forever chemicals” continue to intensify in North Georgia, as activist Erin Brockovich joined PFAS Georgia for a town hall in Whitfield County. She warned that PFAS contamination is often undetectable, lacking smell or color, leaving residents unaware of exposure in water and soil.

Recent testing has revealed alarming levels of PFAS—far exceeding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency limit of four parts per trillion. Some samples reportedly reached millions of parts per trillion, raising serious health concerns including cancer and developmental risks.

The issue is linked to past industrial practices, particularly from carpet manufacturing in Dalton, though contamination is now being reported statewide. Residents described limited access to clean water and fears of long-term health impacts.

Community leaders and policymakers are urging stronger action, while ongoing testing and legal efforts aim to determine the full scale of the crisis and ensure accountability.
