The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has urged the EPA to dismantle several key Biden-era environmental and chemical safety rules, claiming they impose undue burdens on industry. NAM’s proposals include repealing the tighter soot standard, maintaining the current ozone limit despite calls for stricter controls, and scrapping updated chemical review practices it deems overly cautious.
The group also targeted PFAS regulations and New Source Review permitting, aligning with Trump-era deregulatory goals. NAM argues environmental protection and economic growth can coexist.
However, critics warn that loosening these rules would weaken protections against pollutants linked to asthma, cancer, and heart disease, especially impacting vulnerable populations like children and low-income communities. Public health advocates stress that chemical and air quality standards are based on scientific evidence and rolling them back risks widespread harm.
