Beef Jerky Recalled Nationwide for Undeclared Allergen

Springville Meat & Cold Storage Co. Inc. is recalling 15,388 pounds of beef jerky, snack sticks, and voluntarily inspected elk, venison, and buffalo jerky due to undeclared anchovies (a known allergen), the USDA’s FSIS announced on May 3.

The recalled products were made between May 30, 2023, and May 30, 2025, and bear establishment number “EST. 20528” inside the USDA mark. Items were distributed nationwide.

The issue was found during FSIS inspections, which revealed the use of Worcestershire sauce containing anchovies—a change from the establishment's previous allergen-free version.

There have been no confirmed allergic reactions reported. However, consumers with fish allergies should not eat the products. Affected items should be discarded or returned.

Some products may still be in home pantries, so consumers are urged to check labels carefully and consult a healthcare provider if any symptoms occur.
