Food Safety Officials Shut 25 Establishments During Andhra Pradesh Inspections

Food Safety Department officials in Andhra Pradesh conducted surprise inspections at 70 hotels, restaurants and other food establishments across 28 districts, leading to the closure of 25 establishments for reported violations of food safety requirements.

The inspections were carried out as part of intensified monitoring of food businesses operating across the state. Officials examined establishments for compliance with requirements relating to hygiene, sanitation, food handling, storage and licensing.

According to the report, several establishments were found operating under conditions that officials considered unacceptable from a food safety perspective. The enforcement action included shutting down 25 establishments where serious violations were identified. Cases were also registered against businesses found operating without the required food safety licences.

During the inspections, officials identified concerns related to the storage and handling of food products, as well as the use of unauthorised food additives and colours. Such practices can create risks when food ingredients or finished products are not handled in accordance with prescribed safety requirements.

The inspections covered a broad geographical area, with teams visiting food establishments in 28 districts. The action demonstrates the role of routine and surprise inspections in checking whether food businesses are complying with regulatory requirements after obtaining permission to operate.

Food safety authorities can take enforcement measures when establishments fail to meet applicable requirements. Depending on the nature and seriousness of a violation, these measures may include seizure of products, registration of cases, suspension or cancellation of licences, and closure of premises.

The Andhra Pradesh inspections are part of ongoing regulatory efforts to improve compliance among food businesses and to identify unsafe or unhygienic practices through field-level surveillance.
