Bright Farms recalls salad kits for containing recalled cheese linked to the outbreak

In response to a recall by Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc., BrightFarms is recalling its Southwest Chipotle salad kit with best-by dates from Dec. 31, 2023, through Feb. 22, 2024, due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination in the Cotija Cheese ingredient.

Rizo Lopez Foods' recall is connected to a decade-long Listeria monocytogenes outbreak, resulting in two deaths and 26 illnesses. The affected cheese product in the Bright Farms kit is in a fully sealed plastic "masterpack" with a best-by date through March 27, 2024, found in a clear plastic container with details at the bottom.

Consumers should discard the "masterpack" or the entire kit, and may request a refund with proof of purchase. Retailers are instructed to remove recalled products from shelves
