Grand International Import & Export Inc. has recalled Mount Kumgang brand enoki mushrooms in Canada after government testing detected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The affected products were distributed in Alberta and British Columbia in 200-gram clear plastic bags with green borders, marked with UPC 6 289427 793434 and code 2514080929. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reported no confirmed illnesses linked to the recall at the time of the announcement. Listeria infection may not alter a food’s appearance or taste but can cause severe and sometimes fatal illness, especially among pregnant women, newborns, seniors, and immunocompromised individuals. Symptoms, which may appear up to 70 days after exposure, include fever, nausea, vomiting, headache, and muscle pain. In pregnant women, Listeria infection can lead to premature birth or stillbirth. Consumers who have purchased the recalled mushrooms are advised to avoid consumption and seek medical attention if symptoms develop.
