FDA Expands Lead Warning to Include Jiva Organic Cinnamon

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has added Jiva Organic cinnamon to its list of products containing elevated lead levels. Samples collected from a retail store tested positive for lead contamination at levels that could pose health risks, particularly to children.

This warning follows the FDA’s increased monitoring of cinnamon products after the 2023 incident involving WanaBana brand cinnamon applesauce pouches, which led to more than 400 cases of lead poisoning in young children. Since then, the FDA has issued warnings for over a dozen cinnamon products.

Lead is a toxic metal that can harm nearly every system in the body. Children are especially vulnerable, with exposure potentially causing developmental delays, learning problems, and reduced IQ. Because symptoms of lead poisoning are often not obvious, parents are advised to avoid recalled cinnamon products and consult healthcare providers if they suspect exposure.
