The FDA has issued a public health alert for all food products imported and distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors Inc., doing business as East Africa Boutique LLC, based in Louisville, Kentucky. The warning involves a wide range of items, including infant cereals and baking ingredients, some of which may not clearly show the company name on their labels.
FDA inspectors found insanitary storage conditions and contamination, posing serious health risks including E. coli, salmonella, leptospirosis, and rat-bite fever. Consumers are urged to discard any suspect products and thoroughly clean surfaces that may have been exposed. Retailers are advised not to sell or distribute any items from the firm.
The company is cooperating with the FDA on a recall, and updates will follow. The state of Kentucky has ordered a complete halt to the company’s operations due to lack of a permit and has quarantined all its products.
