In a move to enhance food safety and boost consumer trust, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued an advisory requiring dairy units selling milk and milk products through vending machines or kiosks to keep rapid adulteration-testing kits on site. The regulator stated that providing FSSAI-approved or validated rapid test kits at these locations will help detect common adulterants and promote a participatory food safety culture.
The advisory urges all Food Business Operators using vending or dispensing systems to adopt stronger safety measures to ensure the quality and integrity of milk products. Executive Director (Compliance Strategies), emphasized that preventing adulteration is essential, especially for manufacturers supplying packaged or fresh dairy items through automated or temporary vending setups. He added that compliance at these points of sale plays a key role in maintaining the safety and standards of dairy products across the country.
