The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed State Food Safety Departments to conduct special enforcement and surveillance drives during September and October 2025 to prevent food adulteration and safeguard consumer health during the festive season.
In its directive, FSSAI emphasized that food adulteration poses significant risks to public health and undermines consumer confidence. States have been asked to focus inspections on high-risk locations and hotspots, while deploying Food Safety on Wheels units wherever available to enable on-the-spot testing, enhance vigilance, and raise consumer awareness.
The regulator further instructed States to submit an action taken report along with relevant inspection and sampling data by November 15, 2025, through the FoSCoS/FoSCoRIS platforms. The initiative aims to assure the availability of safe and high-quality food products during the festive period while boosting consumer trust.
