The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has clarified that reports circulating on social media suggesting it has approved the sale or disposal of ORSL are false and misleading. The regulator emphasized that no such permission or consent has been granted.
Earlier, FSSAI had instructed all Food Business Operators (FBOs) to remove the term “ORS” from product names, trademarks, or labels—whether used independently or with prefixes or suffixes. The authority reaffirmed that using “ORS” in naming or branding any food or beverage product violates provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and related regulations. The clarification reiterates FSSAI’s stance on ensuring truthful labelling and preventing consumer deception.
