FSSAI Suspends Four Food Testing Labs for Non-Compliance

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the recognition of four private food testing laboratories for six months after they were found violating the 2018 Laboratory Recognition Regulations. The affected labs include Eko Pro Engineers (Ghaziabad), Food Analysis and Research Laboratory (Allahabad), Regional Food Research & Analysis Centre (Lucknow), and CVR Labs (Chennai).

The suspension follows detailed audits that revealed major gaps in operational processes, documentation, and regulatory compliance—issues that could compromise the reliability of food testing. During the suspension, these labs are barred from conducting any testing under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

FSSAI has directed the labs to implement corrective measures and demonstrate full compliance before reinstatement. The move underscores FSSAI’s efforts to strengthen India’s food safety testing ecosystem and ensure only competent, fully compliant labs operate. The authority has also advised food businesses to verify lab accreditation status before submitting samples.
