FSSAI Updates Approval Procedure for Rapid Food Testing Kits

The FSSAI has issued a new notice updating the approval procedure for Rapid Analytical Food Testing (RAFT) kits, equipment, and methods, replacing all previous notifications.

Key updates:

• Only online applications will be accepted, with applicants getting two chances to submit complete data.
• 30-day deadline for providing requested information.
• Mandatory third-party validation (FSSAI labs or international bodies like AOAC, USFDA, MICROVAL, etc.).
• Validation process includes:
1. Single laboratory validation (accuracy, LOD, LOQ, specificity, robustness, etc.).
2. Collaborative ring trial (5–7 expert labs).
• Only commercial manufacturers can apply under the RAFT Scheme—not researchers or institutes.
• Renewals must be submitted online at least 60 days before the certificate expires.

Applications via other modes will not be accepted.
