Ground beef recalled over potential E. coli O26 contamination

Mountain West Food Group LLC, based in Heyburn, Idaho, is recalling 2,855 pounds of raw ground beef due to possible contamination with E. coli O26, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The recalled products bear establishment number “EST 2083” and were distributed to California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Washington for retail sale.

The contamination was detected during routine FSIS testing. No illnesses have been reported to date, but consumers concerned about potential exposure should contact a healthcare provider.

The raw ground beef item was produced on Dec. 16, 2025. The following product is subject to recall:

16-oz. (1-lb.) vacuum-sealed packages containing “FORWARD FARMS GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF” with “USE OF FREEZE BY 01/13/26 EST 2083” printed on the side of the packaging.
