During the ECA Live Online Training on System Suitability Tests and Troubleshooting for HPLC Methods, participants raised several practical questions around system suitability and analytical best practices. Experts later provided detailed written responses, now shared as part of an ongoing Q&A series.
One key takeaway is that System Suitability Tests (SST) remain the most reliable way to assess HPLC column performance, while additional column-related issues should be identified during method validation. Experts also clarified that relying solely on SST after system servicing may be insufficient, recommending broader operational qualification (OQ) checks to ensure full system performance.
On method parameters, %RSD evaluation levels depend on the type of release testing, with lower concentrations sometimes preferred for sustained-release studies. For long analytical sequences, using control standards throughout is advised instead of repeating SST, ensuring consistent monitoring of system performance.
