Recall Alert: President Brand Licorice Plum Due to Undeclared Sulfites and Unapproved Color
East CK Trading, Inc., based in Long Island City, NY, is recalling its 8 oz. packages of President Brand “Licorice Plum” due to undeclared sulfites and the presence of Amaranth (E123), a color additive not approved for use in food. These substances can pose serious health risks, especially to individuals with sulfite sensitivities.
The issue was identified during routine testing by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, which found 29.1 mg of sulfites per serving—enough to cause severe reactions in sensitive individuals, particularly asthmatics. No health incidents have been reported to date.
