Slade Gorton & Co. Inc. Issues Recall of Salmon Over Listeria Concern

Slade Gorton & Co. Inc. has announced a recall of lot 3896 of its Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon after testing detected Listeria monocytogenes. The product was sold exclusively at BJ's Wholesale Club stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia between Jan. 31 and Feb. 7. The salmon comes in 2-pound bags labeled with the Wellsley Farms logo, UPC 888670025963, and lot number 3896 printed on the back panel.

The contamination was identified through routine sampling by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. No illnesses have been reported. Consumers who purchased the affected salmon should avoid eating it and monitor for symptoms such as fever, nausea, muscle aches or headache, which may appear weeks after exposure. Pregnant women, older adults and individuals with weakened immune systems face higher risk.
