USDA posts public health alert for halal ground beef

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for ground beef products sold by Bismillah Halal Meats in Marietta, GA, due to potential E. coli O103 contamination. The alert applies to raw ground beef sold between April 10 and 23, 2025, which was weighed, wrapped, and labeled in-store without a USDA inspection mark. No recall was requested since the items are no longer available for purchase, but FSIS warns consumers may still have them in refrigerators or freezers. These products should be discarded or returned. The contamination was identified during routine FSIS surveillance. Though no illnesses have been reported, E. coli O103 can cause bloody diarrhea and vomiting, and in rare cases, Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), a potentially life-threatening kidney condition. Those with symptoms should seek immediate medical care. Consumers can contact Murad ManJiyani.
