A 2025 Cleveland Clinic report notes that roughly 1 in 14 diabetics develops DME, highlighting the need for early detection and accessible care.
The event brought together experts to discuss strategies for timely diagnosis, patient-centric management, and expanded access to retinal care, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Discussions emphasized routine retinal screenings, affordable therapies, and integration of eye care into diabetes management programs.
AbbVie India, stressed the urgent need to address India’s growing diabetic burden, stating that early detection and innovative therapies can prevent blindness and improve quality of life. Experts highlighted treatments including anti-VEGF injections, corticosteroid implants, and laser therapy, alongside technology-driven awareness campaigns to educate patients about this silent yet sight-threatening condition.
