GenAI in Healthcare: Promise vs. Practice Highlighted in NTT DATA’s Global Report

A recent study by NTT DATA, a global business and technology services leader, highlights a disconnect between healthcare organizations’ GenAI goals and their implementation strategies. While over 80% of healthcare leaders report having a clear GenAI roadmap, only 40% believe it aligns well with their overall business strategy. Just 54% rate their GenAI capabilities as high performing.

Although GenAI is already enhancing patient care and operational efficiency, progress is hindered by concerns around data privacy, security, and compliance. According to the report, 94% say GenAI accelerates R&D, while 95% consider cloud-based platforms the most viable deployment model. However, 75% cite skill gaps, and 91% worry about privacy risks.

NTT DATA stresses the need for human-centric GenAI, with proper governance, workforce training, and transparency. Successful adoption depends on aligning GenAI with clinical goals and investing in infrastructure, data readiness, and compliance. Despite challenges, 59% plan major GenAI investments within two years.
