Indian neurologists are advocating for a National Epilepsy Control Room to deliver real-time medical guidance and strengthen emergency care for epilepsy patients. With many cases arising in regions lacking specialist support, experts believe a centralized system would help healthcare workers access neurologists instantly, improving diagnosis, seizure management, and survival rates.
Marking National Epilepsy Day on November 17, 2025, neurologists highlighted persistent gaps in awareness, early diagnosis, and emergency response. They emphasized that a dedicated control room could connect patients to nearby specialists, integrate telemedicine platforms, and improve treatment access nationwide.
Experts note that while advanced diagnostics, newer anti-seizure medications, and surgical options have strengthened epilepsy care, challenges such as affordability, stigma, and limited rural access remain. Experts underscored that a centralized system could support emergency counselling, data collection, medicine availability, and public education. With over a million people affected, such an initiative could significantly reduce treatment delays and improve outcomes across India.
